Around twenty-five thousand homes in south-east Queensland woke up experiencing outages on the start of the week after powerful weather events impacted the state, producing strong winds hitting over 100 km/h.

Massive Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Impact

Homeowners witnessed large ice chunks as large as 7cm in particular locations. Weather authorities confirmed that multiple regions across Queensland had been impacted by substantial ice precipitation.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing power throughout the affected regions, with nearly 70 crews working to manage the numerous electricity disruptions.

Southern State's Weather Woes

Simultaneously, around 1,000 residents in Victoria also faced electricity disruptions after the capital city saw its wettest day in 18 months.

State Emergency Services handled over five hundred calls for help across the region, primarily for property damage but also for fallen timber and water accumulation.

Hardest Hit Regions

• Werribee region - experienced considerable storm damage
• Hoppers Crossing area - various rescue reports
• Wyndham region - over 175 calls for assistance

During the peak on the previous day, in excess of 28,000 electricity consumers in the state were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were forecast to persist along significant areas of the state's eastern regions this coming days as a weather pattern continued to draw in moisture against the coast.

The following day was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with continued severe weather risk expected across various areas of both areas.

Health Warning

Health officials cautioned that there was an increased chance of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the northern rural areas, particularly given the current weather patterns.

This caution comes after previous incidents where comparable situations led to significant health impacts in the area.
