It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
